§ 02 — The Grounds
A pool, a bar, and a whole lot of sky.
Everything you need. Nothing you don't. And the radio's always on.
The Kidney Pool
Kept cool by the desert night. Open until whenever you feel like getting out.
The Motel Bar
Cold Lone Star, a jukebox with more B-sides than A's, and a neon sign that hums like a lullaby.
Big Desert Views
Joshua trees, purple mountains, and a two-lane blacktop that leads absolutely nowhere in particular.
§ On the Grounds
Artist in Residency: Israel Nash
Rumor is, his new album was kinda sorta inspired by yours truly.
A Three-Part Series
Ghosts of Sweetheart
Three stories about how Sweetheart of the Rodeo found its way into Israel Nash’s life—and why he eventually made his own. A record, a stranger, and a message.
Watch the Series →§ 03 — The Guestbook
Left on the nightstand, in their own handwriting.
“Pulled in at midnight, half out of gas and all out of ideas. Left three days later with a new song and a keychain I'll never lose.”
“The neon sign is worth the drive alone. Ask for Room 8 and don't be surprised if the radio turns on by itself.”
“Cleanest sheets I've slept in on any highway. The coffee's rough but the sunrise makes up for it.”
“I'm not sure this place is real. I'm not sure I want to know.”
§ 04 — Souvenirs from Room 8
Take a little piece of the desert home.
Records, small-run apparel, and the kind of motel key tag that still opens a real door somewhere.
